The Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg awards Regular Fellowships to exceptionally qualified and experienced researchers of all career levels beyond the post-doc phase (Ph.D. completed more than five years before the application).

Applications may be entered for all academic disciplines and from all parts of the world except Northwest Germany. Applicants intending to do experimental or laboratory work are welcome but should enclose confirmation of access to research infrastructure at a nearby academic institution.

Fellowships may last three to ten months; applications for fellowships starting in 2025 or 2026 are now invited. Residency at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg throughout the entire fellowship is mandatory, accommodation on the premises will be provided at no cost. Financial conditions are individually negotiated (maximum support 5,000 EUR/month). The HWK supports researchers who wish to take up a fellowship while staying with child(ren), spouse, or partner.
